Du Fermier, Trentham

Du Fermier is Annie Smithers’ stunning fine dining restaurant in Trentham, on a 20 minutes drive from Daylesford. The restaurant is located on the high street in Trentham, and hard to recognise while past.

The farmhouse feel comes through in the interior design of the restaurant as well as the classic French farmhouse cuisine that is being served in this small restaurant.

The set menu that is served at Du Fermier is seasonal and set by Chef Annie Smithers every week based on the produce that is harvested from the garden at Babbington Park, the chef’s productive farm in Lyonville.

Annie Smithers is one of Victoria’s most well known chefs, having previously headed up the kitchen at The Lake House in the 90-ies. In 2005 Smithers opened “Annie Smither’s Bistrot” in Kyneton and that led to ultimately opening Du Fermier in 2012 in Trentham.

Du Fermier is only open for long lunches on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Mondays and bookings not only strictly required, they are hard to get.

The set four course meal is seasonal, with some plated and some serviced in a family sharing style.  A four course lunch menu is priced at $120 per person with matching wines available for an additional $80 per person.

As mentioned before, bookings are extremely hard to get for Du Fermier and open for the month, two months in advance on the first day of the month at 6am. So on the first of February, bookings open for April. Bookings can be made at the Du Fermier website.

As Annie Smithers’ Du Fermier specialises in a long lunch, we’d highly recommend that you make a weekend of it and enjoy what the region has on offer. Our hotel and accommodation recommendations can be found here.
