After being cancelled in both 2020 and 2021 due to the restrictions of the COVID pandemic, the great Trentham Spudfest festival is back in 2022. Every year, this small town about 20 minutes from Daylesford, celebrates its proud history of potato growing and this year’s harvest.
The festival celebrates all things potato with freshly dug taters and other fresh produce for sale as well as range of food trucks, gourmet ice creams and Devonshire teas. There is plenty of entertainment during the festival including horse and cart rides, mini golf and live performances on two stages.
The festival is split between two main precincts in town. The Market Street precinct will host an open air cafe and “chill out zone” and will see the streets closed closed off between High and Albert Street. Explore the best of local produce that the area has on offer in the Growers Marquee, or try some fantastic potato inspired food from the food trucks. Entertainment will come in the form of “chill-out blues and Jazz” from bands on stage like Newbury Fog, Jared Brentnall and A Last minute Band.
The other precinct is at the hosted at the Historic Trentham Railway Station and provides a wide range of music, food and fun for the whole family. The kids will be entertained with face painting, a hay-bale maze and mini golf. Four local potato growers will be showing off their goods and you will have the opportunity to try some beautiful spuds baked, spiralled, chipped, and even famously turned into donuts. Music on stage will feature the Lyonville Ramblers, Peter Daffy Trip, the Walsh Family Band, the Greater Glider String Band and the Odd Sock Circus with Phil Melgaard.
The great Trentham Spudfest 2022 is on in Trentham on the 7th of May 2022 from 10am to 4pm. The festival is free and you don’t need to purchase tickets. The festival is dog friendly, as long as your dog is on the lead and well behaved.
Of course, the festival provides a great opportunity to make a weekend of it and enjoy what the region (including Daylesford) has on offer. Definitely make sure you stop by for a pizza at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Trentham.
