Best hotels in Daylesford and Hepburn Springs

If you’re looking for the best places to stay in Daylesford & Hepburn Springs, Australia, we’ve got you covered. We’ve compiled a list of the top hotels in this region to help you find the perfect place to stay. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a weekend away with friends, we’ll help you find the best place for your needs. Here are our favourites:

Hotel Bellinzona, Hepburn Springs

Hotel Bellinzona is one of the “Grand Dame” hotels of the region. Operational for more than a hundred years, and having been destroyed several times by fire, it was purchased, fully refurbished and reopened in December 2020 by local entrepreneurs Theresa Albioli and Tony De Marco. The vibe is romantic, country and luxurious with a range of very well appointed guest rooms, stunning gardens and an indoor pool. The hotel offers a formal dining experience at The Oxford Dining room upstairs, and a more informal all-day outlet in The Virgin on the ground floor of the building. We absolutely love the Lobby Bar for a pre or post dinner drink surrounded by stunning art and fire places.

Prices vary between $200 and $400 per night and the major difference between the room types is the size of the rooms. This hotel is perfect for romantic getaways, friends, families and larger groups. It is often used for corporate retreats or small conferences as well. Without a doubt one of the best hotels in Hepburn.

The Lake house, Daylesford

The Lake House hotel and restaurant is what originally started the journey for Daylesford to become a mecca for food and wine lovers. Well over three decades ago, culinary director Alla Wolf-Tasker AM and co-owner and artist in residence Allan Wolf Tasker found a secluded site on the banks of Lake Daylesford. Now The Lake House is renowned internationally as one of the best restaurants in Australia.

In addition to the stunning food serviced in the restaurant, the Lake House offers a number of different hotel accommodation options. From smaller studio’s to stunning suites and even the fully standalone villa “The Retreat”. All rates at the hotel include dinner in the restaurant and it’s effectively the easiest way to get yourself a reservation at The Lake House. Most packages are two night minimum stay with one night dinner in the restaurant and the other serviced in your hotel room. This is the hotel for a foodie weekend away with your loved one or a dear friend.

It is the most luxurious hotel option available in Daylesford and books up quickly. For a full overview of the property check out our overview page on The Lake House Restaurant & Hotel.

Peppers Mineral Spring Hotel, Hepburn

The Peppers Mineral Spring Hotel is the only hotel in the region that is attached to a chain, managed by Accor Hotels. Located on the main street of Hepburn Springs, The Peppers Mineral Springs brings the full service hotel experience to Hepburn. The hotel offers a range of hotel room types to choose from in addition to the renowned Villa Parma. The Villa Parma is a heritage listed, 1864 Tuscan style villa that offers 4 bedrooms all en-suite.

In addition, Peppers offers its guest an onsite restaurant, bar and The Mineral Spa. Prices are slightly cheaper than the more luxury properties like Hotel Bellinzona and The Lake House but can occasionally increase significantly in high season. This hotel is great for a romantic getaway and for groups of friends and families.

Hotel Frangos, Daylesford

Hotel Frangos is located on the Vincent Street, the main street in Daylesford and arguably the best located hotel in town. A stunning facade on the main street, combined with a large vine that has been growing over the canopy makes this place one of the most recognisable spots in town.

The hotel offers 15 individually named and uniquely designed suites with ensuite bathroom and all the modern amenities you require. One of the suites even features artwork from local artist David Bromley.

Hotel Frangos also offers a restaurant, bar and Cafe Koukla. Fantastic pizza’s, cocktails and stunning breakfast on your doorstep with a courtyard in the back and outdoor dining at the front during the warmer summer months. The Daylesford Hotel, Daylesford

So this is one to watch as a new up and coming in town. Not the hotel, obviously, that has been there for as long as anyone in town can remember. Early 2022, The Daylesford Hotel was bought by the owner of numerous hotels in Melbourne’s inner North (the Wesley Anne, Northcote, Charles Weston Hotel, Brunswick and Edinburgh Castle, Brunswick to name a few). These fresh eyes have completely refreshed the hotel, now serving excellent food with live music on Friday, Saturdays and Sundays and Trivia on Wednesdays.

The accommodation is yet to be refurbished (as far as we’re aware!) but is practical and decent. Don’t stay here if you’re looking for luxury accommodation but if you’re after a bed for the night this will definitely work.

Double rooms start at $115 per night and go up to $240 for the One Bedroom Apartment. More information on The Daylesford Hotel can be found here.

The Albert Guest House and Mills Spa Suites

The Albert Guest House & Mills Spa Suites are located in Daylesford, just behind Vincent Street, the main thoroughfare in Daylesford. The Albert Guest house is based in a beautiful heritage listed cottage on the corner that dates back to the 1800’s and has been fully restored into 5 hotel rooms.

Next door are the more contemporary fitted out Mills Spa Apartments, offering 6 self contained apartments next to each other. The One and Two bedroom apartments include everything you need during your stay including lounge and kitchenette. Rooms are serviced daily and includes continental breakfast.

The best part of The Albert Guest House is that you can walk to most places in town. A stones-throw away from Vincent Street, 5 minutes from Lake Daylesford and the Daylesford Sunday Markets just a 10 minute walk away. Hepburn Spa Retreat and Springs Escape

If you’re coming to Hepburn for the Bathhouse & Spa, you might as well stay there too right? Now that has become a perfect possibility with the Hepburn Spa Retreats and Hepburn Springs Escape, both located and operated by the Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa.

Both options are fully self contained and located at the far end of Hepburn Springs, directly next to the Bathhouse. While this is great for direct access to the bathhouse itself, it means you will have to drive to most restaurants, bars and shops in Hepburn and Daylesford. The facility offers 10 Hepburn Spa Retreats and 12 Hepburn Spring Escapes and both categories are luxury, contemporary and open plan. Fitted out with stunning open fires, spa baths and full kitchens, this is the type of hotel if you want to escape from reality and sit back surrounded by nature.

Prices vary significantly and go from $330 per villa, sometimes up to $600-$700 per villa per night. For more information about the accommodation at the Hepburn Bathhouse – click here.
